One thing that puts me off recycling in Southend is the rules
for what you can and can't recycle.
OK - Clean plastic bottles, Clean and empty food cans,
Clean drink cans and pet food cans.
Not allowed - Junk mail, coloured paper, wrapping, books, plastic
not in bottle form, carrier bags, foil trays, cardboard larger
than a cereal box, and a multitude of other items.
Surely all the latter are recyclable, and I wouldn't expect
people to start washing up their old dog food tins.
Probably the cans will be banned when the first person sues
the council after cutting their hands while trying it?
